Starting 42-350 restoration...opening questions
#1

I'm beginning the restoration on a Philco 42-350. I know it originally had a small speaker, but the speaker in my set is oval, and possibly not original as it is a Quam speaker. It fits well, and seems to be a proper field coil type replacement if it's not original. Was the original speaker made by Quam for Philco, or is mine probably a replacement, and was the original oval in shape? Also, how do you clean the glass dial scale safely? Are those water soluble graphics on either side of the glass? I don't want to screw up the dial scale as it's in nice shape, only dirty.

Yours is probably a replacement, and the original speaker is oval.

Yes, you must be careful with the glass dial scale! I will defer to others for possible cleaning methods.
