I just re-capped a Philco 48-1263 and it sounds pretty good, but I have a question about the switched pot for on/off and tone control. It had obviously not an original one on it, the schematic calls for a 6 meg and this was a 500k. There was no tone variance and also it smoked now and then, pretty scary to me. I stuck a new 1 meg on it and no more smoking, but there is still no tone variance. I assume that I do need a 6 meg pot, nothing less. Where will I find such a thing? Only by cannibalizing another radio? As always, thanks so much for your knowledge guys.

Thanks for the reply Ron, I've sent a message off to Mark Oppat. Does it make sense that I won't have a tone variance without the 6 meg?

Well I'd have a look at C205. Ground the end that goes to the pot. If all is well it will reduce the high frequency response. If not replace it.
