Tuning Condenser rubber mounts for model 38-10
#1

Hello,
I am rebuilding a model 38-10 and the tuning condenser sits on (3) what look like custom molded rubber mounts which are hard as a rock now and the condenser is loose. Anyone have a replacement figured out or a fix? Also in the wanted section I have posted a request for two square slip on tube shields if anyone has a few they want to sell. Thanks for your reply. Harbor Freight sells a 180 piece rubber grommet set which contains an assortment of grommets. I used the 3/8" grommets on a 38-12, and they snapped right into the holes perfectly, providing a top and bottom cushion. If you don't have a Harbor Freight nearby, they are on the web at http://www.harborfreight.com . The set is item #46724.

John Kendall's Vintage Electronics has the square tube shields you're looking for. The website address is: http://www.vintage-electronics.com/

Thanks guys. I don't know if 38-12 and the 38-10 have the same mounting setup. I really don't see how I could use a rubber grommet for this setup as it is a rectangular tab going into a rectangular hole. The factory rubber slips over prongs on either side of the chassis. I will check out the grommet selection and see whats in there.
Also thanks for the tip on the shields. I will give him a call. Bob

Bob, I'm not familiar with the set but if the mounts are rectangular you may try surgical tubing. Cut to length needed and push over prongs, it should be flexible enough to conform to rectangular shape. PL

Bob,

A cheap 'n easy solution for the rubber grommets can be found in the plumbing department of your local hardware store or home center. Get a package of the black rubber faucet washers that come in a quanity of a dozen or so. The ones that work the best have a slight cone shape to them and nestle in very nice. Don't screw it down real hard - just enough to keep the tuning condenser in place without flopping around.

Give it a try and let us know how it works. Good luck!

Bill
