Another good product to use on bakelite is Novus plastic polish. It comes in a 3 bottle system - #1 for light cleaning and polishing, #2 for more intense polishing, and #3 for light scratch removal and deep cleaning. It's great stuff.
Sometimes a good way to clean an polish bakelite is good old fashioned dish washing soap. Step 1: REMOVE THE CHASSIS! Step 2: Clean it out in a sink full of warm water and soap, then rinse. Another option for quick cleaning can be done with a household cleaner such as Formula 409. To put the finishing touch on it, try using any good quality car wax (Turtle Wax or something similar).
