And, finally...a Scott Philharmonic!

A few weeks ago, I noticed someone had posted over at the E.H. Scott forum, wanting to sell an E.H. Scott FM Philharmonic in a Warrington cabinet.
The price was right, so I dipped into some savings and bought it.

It looked pretty nice to me, but when I saw the serial number, I knew I had to have it.

Notice the serial number starts with my initials (RR)?
I have never used a shipping service before, but since the set was in southeastern Kansas, I used Craters & Freighters for the first time. I have to say, they did a good job - the set arrived here undamaged.

The set has no tweeters, and it is apparent that it never had any - there are no screw holes where they would have mounted. The woofer has a large "whizzer" cone.
All of the photos above were taken by the gentleman who was selling it for his neighbor.
I'll take some photos of my own and post here, after I clean this set up and reassemble it.

If that's the same firm tht sent my My Hammond amd Tone cabinet from Colorado Springs to New York, can't say enough positive about them. It's a niche market, and not cheap, but a few of them know what they are doing. Good of you to mention reliable movers.
Got to downsize soon myself, its time, so need good current moving references too. Please post specifics and contact information.

Ron, what a great find. Looking forward to the receiver pictures as well. Love to see it after a little dusting. Don't know how you have the time for this stuff. Looks like the chrome should clean up well. If you don't like it, send it out here!

You're gonna like it. I had one years ago (chassis and speakers only), but the chromiumwas bad, and I wasn't up to stripping the chassis and re-donng them. I sold it.

The entire set was quite dirty, with lots of mouse droppings. Even more trash was found at the bottom of the speaker pedestal... including the remains of a long-dead mouse. 
Debbie and I cleaned the cabinet up, and I rubbed it down with Howard's Restore-A-Finish.

The speaker mounting board has holes cut out for tweeters, but this set never had any - note the absence of screw holes:

Another unfortunate illustration of Scott's infamous flash chrome plating, if only they had triple plated it like the car manufacturers did back then. The cabinet on this set was perfectly fine, no lifting veneer, warpage, or other signs of moisture and water damage but the chrome plating still has rusted through and bubbled off in places.
For some reason most of the Philharmonics seem to be housed in Warrington cabinets, same with the Phantom series, it most have been the default cabinet option when these were sold. By the way, did anyone notice the pattern in the grille cloth?

Well, Arran, in this case, the rust spots on the chrome weren't entirely Scott's fault. It doesn't help when mice have been hanging around your Philharmonic. And I think we all know what mouse urine can do to a chassis, especially one that wasn't chrome plated. In this case, I think the chrome plating saved the amp/power supply so that it still looks decent. I think if it had not been chrome plated, it would have already rusted through in places.
I am still amazed that none of the connecting cables were chewed, nor the speaker cone - even though I found the remains of a long-dead mouse inside the speaker pedestal.
