Which Tenite Parts Do You Most Need?
#1

Your input would be appreciated. I'm trying to come up with a list of the most-needed Tenite escutcheons/bezels, and such.

To get the discussion started, I have these, and would appreciate your thoughts:

A) 1937/8 Silvertone (several versions, need to list)

B) 1940 Philco with push buttons

C) 1941 Philcos with push buttons

D) Philcos with rectangular heating register type grilles

E) Emersons with conical dials (and speaker cover on BD-197) consisting of an outer ring and an inner decoration

My vote is for the 1941-42 Philco models using the same type grille, the most popular of which is the 41-226 "Sled" but also includes the following:

41-84T
41-85T
41-221C
41-221CI (ivory grille)
41-841T
41-842T
41-843T
41-844T
41-851T
42-842T
42-843T
42-844T
42-853T
42-854T
42-PT94
42-PT95 (ivory)
47-204 (ivory, not Tenite as no examples I have seen have shrunk)

These, I believe, are what you are referring to as the Philcos "with rectangular heating register type grilles."

Are you working on possible replacements for what you have listed, or merely compiling a list? Just curious...

I'm working on replacements, so want to focus my energy on what is most needed.

I am interested in how you wish to replicate these. Quite honestly probably only a few dozen of each could be sold each year for a reasonable price so I assume this is your contribution to the hobby. No, I don't need any at the moment, but things change daily.

With regard to the early 40s Philco grilles that Ron mentioned, I think that there would be a greater market then only a few dozen per year since there are hundreds and hundreds of sets that use these grilles and they all have the same deterioration problem. My thought is that since the 47-204 uses the same grille but does not have the deterioration problem it would greatly simplify the process of making a mold for the earlier sets.
The eight and nine pushbutton plastic escutcheons for models like the 41-280 42-380 are already out there fortunately. Unfortunately if you have a ten pushbutton model from the 1942 model year you are out of luck, which is really too bad. As for the Silvertone sets those probably had the worst plastic escutcheons of any set, there are some models that you never see with a bezzel intact, even a warped one.

I need a new escutcheon set for my 1938 Silvertone 6024. Both pieces have warped and in one case cracked when the glass wouldn't let it shrink any further. Fortunately there are at least photos out there that show what it's kinda sorts supposed to look like.

I just need to find one of the undistorted grilles from a 41-221CI, 42-PT95, or 47-204.

I have one - I bought a 47-204 for this very purpose, then could not convince either of the guys currently making repro parts to reproduce it.

Now, I just have to find it. I set it aside somewhere...just where is the question.

Bear with me, Stephen...I can't lay my hands on it immediately...but when I do find it, I am willing to lend it to you so you can make molds, or whatever you need to do to make this happen.

Me I need the escutcheon for a RCA 96T3. Then again almost anything late 30's from RCA needs replaced.

The escutchion on the 1942 Philcos like that found on the 42-122T, 42-125K and 42-124T are usually warped badly.

Personally, I would love to find the escutchion and knobs for a Midwest 181 that were not warped. I have two sets now, one set is pretty bad and the one I intend to use on my set (assuming that I FINISH it) is just warped.

I have two Silvertone 6436 consoles that both need tennite escutcheons. I have always assumed there would never be an available replacement.

How about the dial for the Philco Mystery Control?

Oooh, yes, the Mystery Remote dial!

+1 re: Silvertone Escutchions. MANY of the late 30s sets have badly warped plastic!

Some GREAT suggestions here. Stephen: good luck with this and please do keep us informed on how you do.

I would be very interested in the escutchion for the 42-PT95. Ron is correct, the 47-204 is also ivory and the one I have is not warped one bit and seems to be an exact replacement for the 42-PT95/94.

I am going to use this one from the '47 to replace a extremely warped on on a 42-PT95 I have.
