What $140 Bought Me This November
#1

I consider myself very lucky this month. For the meager sum of $140 I have acquired the following radios:
1. Another 9s262 Zenith looks to be a basically unmolested set. with ALL of it's original knobs.
2. A Zenith 6s52 needing some case help, with ALL of it's original knobs.
3. A Sparton 1268 with photochromatic dial. Case is in overall nice condition, with ALL of it's original knobs. The dial is broken but is still usable. There is flaking on the back side and I am wondering if there is any method to be able to stop it from going any further. I know these dials are pretty much unobtanium, but you never know..............

And this thread answered my question about the Sparton Cabinet!

I could not tell that it was the Selectronne model when I looked at the chassis photos. That is a VERY good radio!! Sparton, along with several other manufacturers, offered sets that featured 45 tube output long after they had made the switch to the 6V filament tubes. There was (and continues to be today) many who felt that the older triode gave a clearer, cleaner sound.

Personally, I believe that the 6A3 and 6B4G triodes from that period were just as good as the 45, and offered more power out.

I wished I lived in a place like that where $140 buys one at least one unmolested 9S262....
