Can anyone identify this radio
#1

Craig's listing, calls it a Zenith but I didn't think they uses the shadow meter. Any idea of the make/model?

Yes, Zenith did use shadow meters in these early 30s sets.

The set in the pictures is a Zenith model 755.

TA, your the man. Thanks again for expanding my knowledge. I figured they went with the good old eyetube.
Nice looking styling but then again, it is the "Z" manufacture. Icon_lolno

Guess that's why I liked it Terry. Looks like I'm buying, need another console like a hole in the head. This is an addiction!

I'm not a Z guy but I have a Z model 775 and it's actually a pretty good set. If I had a chance to buy another early 30s Z I probably would.

TA, I'm thinking about it. You should be very careful admitting openly on the Phorum possession of a model Z.Icon_lol This could result in a demotion from Expert status to Noobie! Contrats on your 1200th post.

The oldest radio in your humble host's collection is a brand Z Super VIII from 1924.

Philco didn't enter the radio manufacturing business until 1928.

The early 30s Zs just appeal to me. They are fairly well laid out to work on, and the prices/availability of parts is better than those of the later 30s sets. The styling is fairly gothic, but again that appeals to me.

My 775 is a 12 tube set, BC only BUT the BC band is extended to 1750KHz. It has two speakers, variable sensitivity, and illuminated tone and volume control indicators.

Should you choose to acquire some of these era Zs, you should have a fair amount of success in doing so.

Early brand Z radios from the late 20's and early 30's are near impossible to find around here. That said, the few I have run across seemed to be good radios.

No matter where you go, there you are.

For anyone interested in the C/L listing, I visited the radio today. Cabinet needs a lot of glue, most joints are loose. All wood is there. Chassis looks untouched and the power transformer/field coil and voice coil all test good on resistance. Mike is open to offers, even chassis only. I don't think the cabinet would hold up well to shipping.

Man, I would like to BUT I'd better stick to what I am doing now. Icon_sad

Jay, there was a fellow up in Buffalo, NY, last summer who threatened to saw his LOVELY model 244 up after several unsuccessful tries to sell it!
