Chassis ID in a 116B Shouldered Tombstone
#1

Hey All,

Thought Tom & Ron, pretty much had me straightened out on the 16 series chassis. Ran across this photo filing pics away into proper folders.

EDIT: Can't seem to load this pic at this time no matter how small I make it.

A 5-band, "low profile" power transformerIcon_eek Square tube shieldsIcon_eek in a "shouldered" Icon_eek cabinet.

This chasis is the later 16B chassis that doesn't have the large external multi capacitor can, but Does have Only two pilot lights, one for the shadow meter & other for the band selection. Definately not the multi light 4-band set.

I thought by the time this cabinet came out, that only the *4-band chassis were made with the low profile PT* & fitted in.

I have the "early version" 16b 5-band tombstone even a 16L 5Z3/U-2 set-up. My 4-band 16B chassis that I have pics of 4-banders in the "later version" tombstones & shouldered cabinets but never seen this chassis's combo before in either style tombstones.

Thought 116B shouldered's sported nothing but the 4-band chassis. Square shields & low profile PT doesn't seem to make sense with a 5-band set.

Always a Noob,
Lloyd

All 116 sets have five bands - Philco took the 4-band 16 chassis, added a long wave band (which is the fifth band you see), made a few other changes here and there, and VOILA - the 116. Icon_smile

Hey RonIcon_smile

Ok I FinallyIcon_redface see the difference in what I was still confused about.

There's a 16B "shouldered" 4-band tombstone & a 116B 5-band "shouldered" tombstone that's easily Identifiable from the front of the cabinet by it's escutcheon & the speaker grille design.8)

Still fixing 3 650Bs,
Lloyd
