Model 49-504
#1

When I got this little radio none of the components had been replaced. I replaced all the capacitors to include the electrolytics and bypass caps and quite a few resistors. The tubes seem to be fine but alignment was way out. I used a little Mother's Mag and Aluminum polish on the bakelite case and it looks much better than before although the photo doesn't show what it really looks like.

I also gave it an alignment and now I can scan from high to low on the dial and pull in about ten stations in the daytime. I'm rather happy with this one and it will be a keeper.

You have a very nice set. You should be able to pull in another 10 or so stations at night, or make an externall tuned loop, say 2'X2' (plenty of stuff on web) and probably get a carrier or signal from one axis or another on almost every channel. Great cure for insomnia.

I never thought about a loop...good idea. I'd like to have one for my Atwater Kent Model 30 if I could find one that wasn't an arm and a leg like some I've ran across.

Good little set. The brown ones polish nicely. The white ones can be a pain in the thing one sits on to clean up.

I gave my sister a model 6D815 in white about 18 years ago. She recently passed away and I have it back again but it no longer plays so it's time to do some evaluating. I was fortunate in that there was little to do to it cosmetically. This is one just like it.
