I Found this at a Knick Knack shop about 2 blocks from my sons school. Original finish, plays very well, has a pretty big sound for the speaker size.
if the shopkeeper was not telling me stories this was taken on consignment form an elderly gent, it had been in his living room for about 68 years. In the store it was covered with teacups, doilies, little statues. I had driven by that place a a thousand times before I went in. One of my faves.

I am glad I stopped in that shop.

Very nice, and original cloth too! (That pattern was only used in some 1935 Philco models, and was never reproduced.)
Hope you don't mind my making the photos visible. We good Philco photos!

Maybe I should photo my other sets, not all as nice as this. It was just an easy find, one of the few. Glad you like the pic's.

Performs well too. I have a factory copy of that 45L lowboy too.
One of my earlier collecting finds.
Same shape your's in too. It's out of my console "rotation" at the moment.
It might be about time to put a Philco in the living room now.
My 'Zee' 10S567 has been dusted enough, I'd guess.

I have a 45C "Butterfly." Great performer, although the sound isn't quite as "mellow" with its 5 inch speaker. The 8 inch K series speaker is a very good speaker and should sound well.

There was a Canadian model Philco that used a very similar chassis but it had a drum dial and a tuning cap similar to a model 89. I think it was a model 45 or a 44, my Uncle had one that he was given by one of my great aunts. It too was a good performer with a tuned RF stage, but the cabinet had six legs rather then the four this one has so it was probably a highboy cabinet.

I'll wake up this thread....
I have my eye on a real nice looking 45L that's been recapped. Think it's worth $150?
thx

Considering it's been recapped.....I'd say, yes.

Well.....as much as I like 45L and such, as radios they don't get in "h..l yes" category for me. Even if free. But a simple "yes" I can say
H**l yes I reserve for recapped 45C for 50 bucks.

Mmmmm, . . . . nice-looking console!
For some reason, I have trouble with the hex knobs of that era, ... just one of my idiosyncrasies.
. . . but I would take one at a bargain price. And being re-capped, that is a bargain price if it's been done with any care at all.
About time for me to retire the AMI G-120 juke in the dining room for a nice console like this in it's place. I don't play it so much anymore.

Yeah, I'm having a hard time convincing myself. It's the furniture that grabs me. I love the looks of it. But it's 70 miles away and I'm getting short on space in my home for more big radios.

I have one. It plays very well. Speaker is pretty good size, 8 inch I think. It has a cool look and there were fewr of this style coming down the pipe so for me it is one of my older sets and only "Lowboy" sold new in 1935 for 59.00 so your is a little over twice retail for an 84 year old set. here is the one I got, it was unrestored and the second hand shop wanted 200.00 one of my better negotiating jobs 50.00 cash brought it home.

It's in great shape, the cloth is either original or a good repro.
Plus recapped
70 miles is what.....1-1/2 hrs?
Of course if you want it.
