Philco 40-150
#1

This Philco 40-150 followed me home! Normally, I'm not a big fan of the slide rule dial radios, but I got it for next to nothing and it is very clean. Also I've read that this model is a good performer so, here it is! The good news is that it's complete and clean and all but the 7G7 tube tests good. the bad news is the usual bad rubber coated wiring and disintergrating pushbuttons. It looks to have been serviced back in 1948. The finish is so-so, the decals around the knobs are all badly worn. Does anyone know which are the correct decals to use for this model? Seeing as we are still freezing up here in Wisconsin, I will probably take the time to do a complete resto of this one.

Say... That chassis is mighty clean! That should be a fun lil project! Being nearly done with my 42-400, I'm starting to pine for another, perhaps a tabletop similar to yours would be a good candidate. Looks like that one should spiff up just fine. Icon_thumbup

Nice set. I have a 40-180 console, which I believe uses the same chassis. At one time I had a 40-150 as well, but sold it about 15 years ago. I now have the 1939 slant front table model 39-30 instead, mainly because I really like that back lit white dial face they used that year only. What part of Wisconsin are you located? I'm in West Bend. As for decals, you probably already know, www.radiodaze.com is the place to go. I believe they also have the wine colored reproduction pushbuttons as well. Perhaps Ron can point you to the exact decal sheet that's correct for this set. Good luck... should be a fun restoration project. Let's hope this current freezing & snowy Wisconsin weather leads to an early spring!

Nice looking radio! I am a little jealous, I've always liked the look of this model and keep hoping to find one. I have a 40-190 which uses the same chassis so I'll have some practice under my belt once I do find one.

Yes, the chassis is in very good condition. I've started disassembling it for cleaning, the power transformer looks like it's still new! I've already ordered new pushbuttons and rubber mounts from Renovated Radios and will begin the fun of replacing that old rubber coated wireIcon_crazy!
Greg, it's good to hear from a fellow Wisconsinite! I live not too far from you! I'm up just west Of Sheboygan in Sheboygan Falls.
I also have what is I think a 40-180, I say "I think" 'cause I haven't looked at it for years! It's buried somewhere in my mom and dad's basement. I remember buying it for 8 bucks when I was in High school back in the early 80's. At that time my mom didn't appreciate my new found hobby so I had to keep it at my Grandma's house! The set still played at the time and the cabinet was my first attempt at refinishing. It was at that time that I learned the hard way about "Photo Finish" Icon_redface !

Nice set, well restored it will be a fine player. I have a 42-350 waiting for work. Does it have the low impedence Philco internal antenna that looks like copper pipe in the rear of the cabinet?
