Unknown philco amp
#1

Hello all,
this item is not really a radio, so please excuse me if this is the totally wrong place where to posto this question. But this was the only philco forum I found and this indeed is made by philco...
I firend and I found this big amp + turntable in his grandfathers' house. It bears no model number on the outside except for a big PHILCO logo:

Does anyone know what model this can be and where to find a schematic? An uncle of my friend more or less remembers building this thing from a kit in the '60.
The only markings are in the PCB found disassembling the unit:

27-7174
PHILCO

As you can see the PCB was modified. In fact a tube was removed:

There are four tubes but we where only able to identify 3:
2x EL84
12AX7

The fourth bears no markings and has an octal socket with only 5 pins attached (it is the large valve near the power transformer). This should be some kind of rectifier.
Does anyone have more info?
Thanks

That chassis not look like anything Philco built. Someone may have started with a Philco amp to make a custom Hi Fi. Note the oversize power transformer, missing parts, outboard electrolytic, no chassis ID, and other signs that indicate it did not leave a Philco factory in that condition.

Even if you identify the original chassis, I doubt the service information would help much because of the extensive rework. Good luck.

Don
