40-216: TV Sound?
#1

My 40-216 came with a station tab installed labeled "TV Sound". It was in the leftmost position, which means it would have limited to the low end of the broadcast band. But this set does NOT have an input jack to accept the output of early TV sets which did not have audio amps and speakers and relied on a radio to provide that function (to reduce the cost).

Does anyone know what this might have been used for? It was obviously factory original - matched the other stations tabs.

The set was from the Chicago area based on other station tabs installed.

Thanks

Philco was to have come out with a TV set that did a "wireless" TV sound out to be picked up on your Philco radio "Equiped for TV Sound."

Was not a direct audio connection. Some other models had this "marketing feature" as well - other model numbers escape me at moment...
