PHILCO DECAL SIZE QUESTION
#1

I will soon be restoring the cabinet of a model 37-620 chairside I've had on the back burner. It only needs some clear coating and a new philco decal. Ron, in the photo you have posted of this model, it looks like there is a decal just under the knobs and between the edge of the recess, is this correct?. Do you or any of our philco folks have this model WITH the intact decal? I really want to keep it as original and "barely" restored as possible. The measurements would be invaluable to me, and a proper decal would be ordered. Any help is appreciated !!! Thanks, BOBC, Cincinnati Ohio

BobC - My apologies for not replying sooner.

This model will only have the PHILCO trademark decal on it, no other decals.

I do not own a 37-620CS, and never have. I've only seen one of these, and it was sitting in an antique mall in Ohio priced at $375. I passed. On another visit there a couple years later, it was gone. You know what Barnum said about one being born every minute...but I digress.

Anyway...the PHILCO decal you want will be 1-9/16" long.

Rock-Sea Enterprises, just prior to their selling out to Radio Daze, came out with decals for 1937 and newer Philco models that do not look at all like the originals. While this error was supposed to have been corrected, it appears from Radio Daze' own web site that the PH1, PH2, PH3, PH7 & PH9 decals are still incorrect - so please check before ordering. I'll try to contact Radio Daze this week and see if they corrected them.

Examples:

What a 1937 and newer Philco decal should look like.

What the Radio Daze (formerly Rock-Sea) decal looks like.

What a 1932-36 Philco decal looks like.

Now, the Radio Daze PH8:

Anyway...the AES Philco decal sheet has decals that look correct for 1937 and later Philcos, although it comes with a lot of decals you may never use. No one makes a completely authentic 1932-36 Philco decal.
