Model 91 High Boy
#1

Hey guys I have a chance at getting a chassis model 91 code 126.
I believe it is a high boy model and I am curious as to the performance
Of this model both reception wise and sound quality too. Any thing special I should know about this set? Thanks in advance for your input.

Certainly one of the better sets of that year. BC band only. Good fidelity with the modern 6V tubes P/P 42's in the output stage. I've have had it in the Lazy X chairside and in a BG. May have the coil issues that the early Philcos have.

Thanks Terry, this one is a 2band model ..1.5 to 3.2 MHz shortwave. It is at a local
Auction place near me with only a $10 bid on it so far, goes off around July 6. Last Philco console they had went for $160 so I missed out on that one but we will see this time.

I think that the model 91 is pretty similar to a model 90 circuit wise except that it uses 6.3 volt tubes instead of 2.5 volt tubes. The extra band is what they used to call the Police band, the lower end of which is now the upper end of the AM broadcast band so you kind of need it if you want to hear anything between 1500 and 1700 KC. The rest of that band between 1700 to 3500 KC is pretty much a dead zone, I think that WWV is about all you will find.

Arran
