Unknown Emerson
#1

Here is the Emerson console radio I purchased earlier today. It will definitely need work and the guy was lucky he didn't start a fire by trying to play it! The underside of the chassis was crammed full of stuff from chipmunks! Anyways, it is a seven tube console and the tube compliment is: 80, 47, 2A6, 58, 58, 58, 56. The speaker is a Utah speaker that looks to weigh more than the chassis. I can't find a model number on this unit, just a serial tag on the chassis.

Yep, it looks like a 77.

Nice snag, there aren't a whole lot of Emerson consoles floating around out there.

Thanks for the advertisement picture, Elliot! So far I have not stumbled on any pictures of existing model 77 consoles, just pictures taken from advertisements like that one. I would not have gone for this radio if it hadn't been such a rare piece. I know where two slightly later Emerson consoles are sitting in storage, but have been afraid to ask the guy what he wants for them. Both are in nice shape.

Judging by the schematic it looks like a fairly straightforward radio to work on, a single band and about ten paper caps and two electrolytics to replace. It also has a tuned RF amplifier stage so it's probably a reasonable performer. I think the biggest issue will be repairing or replicating that grille, but it looks like the front panel could be removed to work on it.

Jayce,

Be sure to send a pic of this rare set to Radio Attic Archives.

That's where I looked and couldn't find it.

But if he sends the pic, it will be there for the next person. Icon_smile

Hmm, I will have to check the site out and do that. Hope they don't mind a picture of a sort of rough looking Emerson. Icon_smile

That's a nice snag, Jay!!!

Although I hate to say "I told you so," I am going to do it anyway!

Radios ALWAYS come around. A couple of months ago you were not having any good luck. NOW you ARE!!!!
