How many Philco 38-116 radios are out there?
#16

Tim: did you recap the RF deck on your 38-116??
#17

If you didn't an easy way to do it is to remove the bandwitch shaft it is held in by 2 screw on the front unsolder the grounds of metal shields and remove the screw that holds them in then you can move them around to get at the caps.

Tim, What are you saying? Should I try swaping out the 6A8G tube? If that is what you think would make the radio tune better I will give it a try... I will try to locate one.
#19

Or you can use 6D8. As long as the filaments are in parallel to each other.

I have one--works and looks great. My favorite Philco in my collection. Ken

Picked one up last summer from a barn.
Looks great and complete. Still on my to-do list

I did remove the RF deck and recapped it; I also had to clear a short on the RF section of the bandswitch.

John, does your radio go dead on the low end of the BC band? A weak 6A8 can cause that problem.

Tim...Yes it does.....I guess I have to change out that tube and work from there. I really should invest in a tube tester. Where do you guys go to buy replacement tubes?
#24

When I need tubes, I always go to Bob Dobush at Findatube.com:

Bob is one of the best guys in this hobby, and he offers good service and some of the best prices around.
