Anyone ever heard of an Imperial radio?
#1

I've been a bad boy againIcon_redface! Another Craigslist find for $50. I had never heard of an Imperial radio before and a quick check of Nostalgia Airs site lists only one Imperial model under Triangle Electric Co. and it's not this one! No manufacturers label in the cabinet either, just a patent label and serial number. Big chassis, 12 tubes with tuning eye, 2 5W4 rectifiers and 2 6L6 output tubes. previous owner says it works but haven't tried it. all in all a pretty neat looking set. Here are some pics.

I had a very similar radio under the name of Silver Marshal several years back. Tube line-up sounds similar as well.

No matter where you go, there you are.

Looks like this radio would be nicknamed "Cyclopes". Icon_smile

Could be a humdinger of a set, I have seen ads for later models of Imperial, 5 and 6 tube superhets. I like her looks.

Love that "clock dial" tuning! Nice! Icon_biggrin

Took a quick a look and did find some Imperial sets but none with 6L6's. Most had 6F6's. The reference I was using was printed in '38 so your set may be a bit newer.

It looks like another product of Continental Radio and Television, also known as Admiral. They used to make private label radios much like Wells Gardner and Belmont did, this Imperial was probably produced for a regional department store chain. The chassis looks like it was taken from one of the "Tilt Tuner" models and stuffed it into a different cabinet, I think it's from 1937.

How about a Continental 16R. It's the only one I could find with 6L6's in the output.

Hey guys,
Thanks for your input! After some research it turns out this set was made by Continental/Admiral. the chassis is an AM4, Nostalgia Airs site has limited info on this model so I ordered a set of schematics for it. I was on a site that had some info on this model. Continental made this set for at least five jobbers, but Imperial was not listed. There was a picture of a Knight branded model that looks exactly like my radio and it appears that they all had the same type of nameplate mounted on the cabinet.

The more I look at it the more I like the looks, like the dial especially.
