Field Coil Connections in Filter Circuit
#1

I have been recapping and rewiring a 42-350 since Christmas--I've had a lot of other stuff to keep me busy.

Does it matter which direction I reconnect the field coil? My notes aren't clear which wire connects to the rectifier cathode and which connects to B+.

Hi John,

Appears the radio uses a hum bucking coil in the speaker. Therefore you may get some objectional hum if the field connections are reversed. Trials are needed to determine which way will give the least hum with no station tuned in.

Richard, thanks for checking. I was wondering whether that second coil in the speak circuit (in the schematic) was a hum-bucker.
