Lean it towards the 'tit' on the base. In a perfect world it will 'jump' out of the socket.

EDIT

Danggit....my term got censored. Lean it towards the metallic protrusion that looks like a bump or a tit on the metal base.

Sorry about the word censors, guys.

Jerm, what Bill is trying to say is...there is a raised bump in one spot of the side of the metal base of nearly all loktal tubes. If you pull the top of the tube in the direction of this bump...the tube should release from the socket.

Sometimes it takes some wiggling...towards and away from the bump...but it should come out without a great deal of effort.

... I usually carefully pry the loctal type tubes up just abit out of the socket far enough to install a good ol Blackcat ® brand firecracker. Insert firecracker between censor side of tube base and socket, lite the fuse,... stand back,... and when she blows, I try to catch the tube before it hits the floor. Works like a champ!... if I indeed catch the tube midair barehanded!? I have missed several times also! Whew!,..guess we do it different in Texas? Those loctal types tubes are tough little rascals in design!!
I always remember to clean all the tube pins & socket connections before reinstalling the tube(s). Never hurts to spray some WD-40 in those old tube sockets either! The whole *firecracker* tube removal process kinda sounds like a reversed mounted filter-cap going *bang*, but it is alot more fun to watch!! Jus kiddin ya'll !! Icon_wink Best of luck on all your vintage radio restorations!! ol Txrocker!! Icon_lol

I try to lean toward the "censored" any chance I get, it is nice to know that it also helps get the tubes off too!!!

Yea Stude! I agree!! Those loctal tubes can be a troublesome removal sometimes indeed!! (hee hee)!!... By the way, I noticed you have some very nice consoles in your photos!! BEAUTIFUL!!.... If you ever run across a restorable 29-30 Fada mod KW (trf type chassis) lowboy cab in good condition, I need one! I have a completely rebuilt chassis & orig spkr needing a original cabinet home!!(sliding fnt doors w/cab ornate early presswood details). The complete electronically restored TRF radio chassis sounds awesome!!, but the orig cab it was in, was not restorable at all! Icon_wink ol Tex
