38-3XX - back panel?
#1

Did the 38-3XX console originally have a back panel on it? If so, what did it look like? And did it serve any functional purpose other than to keep the kids from electrocuting themselves? My 38-3XX has some clips around the back edge that look like they MIGHT have held a panel at one time, but if there was one it was long gone by the time I got the set.

Yes it did have a back when it was new. See this thread: http://www.philcoradio.com/phorum/showth...p?tid=6813

Anybody have a good photo of one? Also, what material was it made of, and how thick?

I think I saw one on epay recently.

not there now, though. They must have been fairly fragile if so few of them are around now.

Suggestion: Send the fellow in the thread above (Murf) a PM and see if he still has the radio with the back on it and would send you photos.

Did that yesterday & waiting for a reply...

Hello,
I sold mine. Sorry.
Back was just made out of hardboard.
Had a bunch of slots cut in it for ventilation.
Would be easy to make.
Good luck.
