I finally got the tube shield and over-load issue figured out on my 111 console. Turned out one of the type 24 tubes was the culprit as well as the local distance switch still having something in it causing it to not want to make contact all the time. Now this historic Philco lowboy works like it should and is a very sensitive receiver. Also has a good bit of bass when you actually can find a station in my area that has it.
This also is a relief as I now know for sure that my friend's speaker cone swap worked. The original cone had turned into a stiff rock for some reason and was brittle, so we swapped an earlier canvas cone from a dead speaker that was with a model 87 chassis he found. Worked quite well and sounds good!

Oh! Yours looks good as well! I found mine a few years back at a now defunct antique mall. The tag was missing, so had to rely on the Phorum and the photo gallery here to identify it as I mixed it up with a model 96 that I missed out on a week before. Luckily, I didn't miss out on this one! It is nice enough that a couple fellow collectors I know have tried multiple times to buy it from me, but no way am I letting this piece go!

Can I get in on this? One of my favorite Philcos, which explains why I still have it.
You want to sell those doors?

Guys, we should start a 111 owners club. Nice radio Phlog. Hummm, how much would you give me for a set of doors? Insert smiley here. I do have to figure out how to use my camera. Shooting against a light wall the cabinet comes out much darker. Closer to both of yours but still slightly darker. Dang lighting. The finish other than the top is original, the top had a nasty water spot from a plant. It had to be taken down and redone.

I think what makes the 111 so neat is that once RCA was finally forced to release the Superheterodyne, Philco got out the door quickly with a nice, deluxe radio that performs quite well. The only Superhet from the same period that I have that performs as well or better is my Radiola 82.

Russ, still Phlog to me, visited your web site and wife fell in love with your radios and the room filled with them. You really do lovely work and that room is just beyond belief.

Agree, the 111 is an under-appreciated set!
I have a Midwest Miraco SW converter hooked up to my 111, with the local/distance switch in distance it peels the paint off the wall!

I had a similar 211 once with an RP up top and short legs but similar style. A beautify cabinet. The tone control was broken in shipping but my guy replaced it with a variable pot so I ended up having much more tone control. Mine was just a so-so performer and I ended up selling it to a mega Philco collector in the upper mid-West. I don't know if he is still collecting or not. He is the one I got my 680X from, the only Philco I currently have.
