filter cap
#1

I am trying to repair a Philco Model 51 table radio and need to replace the filter capacitor (the radio has the telltale loud hum). Can anyone tell me how to identify this part? I have a schematic but it doesn't tell me which capacitor is the filter cap.

Thanks,

Jon

Jon, I have linked your schematic for you. Welcome to the Phorum. Scroll down to the Model 51, 51A. The two electrolytic caps are items 42 and 43. Their location is shown on the drawing of the underside of the chassis. Both are 6 mfd caps and 450V should suffice. They are probably labeled on the top side of the chassis on their aluminium cans.
