Hippo knobs
#1

I recently refinished an ivory hippo which was missing the knobs, I have seen photos with brown and ivory knobs does anyone know what color they should be? Thanks, Todd

Brown on a brown cabinet, ivory on a white cabinet...

I asked radiopup about that at the last ARCI radiofest and she said she seen very few (if any) ivory Hippo knobs. I know they exist, but a large majority of white hippos in online photos have brown knobs including mine. If they were all ivory originally, I wonder what happened to them ?

Didn't the ivory hippos have the reddish brown knobs?

Ron is the expert here, but the white hippos with brown knobs that I have seen had been painted by a previous owner. One had red knobs, which were also painted....

I think Mike Koste is correct. I used to own an ivory Hippo (46-420-I), and it had reddish brown knobs, as I recall. Certainly not ivory knobs. I believe the 1948 models also have brown, or reddish brown, knobs. Not sure about the ivory 1949 version, but it probably also uses dark knobs as well.

As some of this stuff gets rarer, I am beginning to believe it's OK to get the correct or close enough knobs of an incorrect color or otherwise imperfect, and fix/paint them to be as true to the original as possible. But try a WTB ad on the classified if you have not already done so stating just exactly what you want. No Hippos or HippoKnobs in my stash, but someone may have some for you. Best of Luck.

I've sold several Ivory Hippos this year, plus my wife has one on her nightstand. None of them have ivory knobs. They've all had reddish brown knobs.
