Philco Deluxe Model 95
#1

I have a Philco radio Deluxe Model 95; year 1929; cabinet in good to great
condition; needs new tubes. I want to sell it. How much might I ask?

Joanna,

Greetings!
A lot depends on asking price and it is as subjective as Politics.

You say it needs tubes. Are they missing or are you saying that because the radio is old?
Are any major components missing? speaker present and in good shape?
Do you want to sell it right away? Then price it that way.
Geography has a lot to do with asking price too (as strange as it sounds). I am in NY as well and a radio I buy here for $100 might fetch $200 on the West coast..

Whatever you do (if you haven't yet) DO NOT plug it in until someone qualified looks at it. Plugging it in may surprise you and ruin critical components (Transformer).

In my buying experience, and without seeing it, I have paid anywhere from $40 to $100 to a set like yours. I am a collector so I think I am cheaper than some. If it's in exceptional shape and I desired that model I may pay up to $150.

Some others may think/say I am off on my estimation but again, it's subjective.

Hope it helps..

Tim

Insured and proper Shipping will often double the price, and once restored and resold, will be half again just to break even, so that's where it is. Hobby is getting expensive!

With no tubes, not working, good cabinet, no rust, good speaker, good grill cloth, cash, $50 - $100.

No tubes makes it an under $50 radio, maybe less then $30, the tubes average about $5 a piece except for the output tubes which are more, it has two of those and seven others. Are the tubes missing or are they there but the set is not playing? But it depends on what style of cabinet the 95 has, lowboy cabinets are the most common, highboys less common, highboy with doors the least common. If it needs refinishing, or cabinet repair, that knocks it down even more.

I would concur with the $50-$100 figure; maybe $150 if in exceptionally good condition with all tubes in place.
