15x dial needed
#1

New to this so please pardon my stupidity. Have a 15x for 30 years sitting around and finally decided to make a few repairs. the string is broke on the dial but more important is the "plastic"dial scale. been on all afternoon to find the scale and no luck. also need to refinish but that may wait till warmer weather. radio plays last time I plugged in to play but it appears there should be some replacements done on capacitors for safety?? I am old cutlass guy so this is not in my wheel house yet. thanks for any help. Oh, and need one left nob!

Welcome to the Phorum. Some of the more experienced folks will have experience with this specific model but if it has never been recapped you do need to do that to avoid damaging the transformer or other parts of the radio. The electrolytic caps and paper caps (which in this radio are probably inside of bakelite blocks....see: http://www.philcoradio.com/tech/blocks.htm ) need replacing. A schematic can be found here: http://www.philcoradio.com/tech/images/15.jpg : additional info beyond the schematic here: http://www.philcorepairbench.com/schematics.htm . Some useful info if you've never worked on a radio is here: http://www.antiqueradio.org/begin.htm .

Try the folks on this list for the knob: http://www.philcoradio.com/resourceb.htm#l

Lots of threads on this Phorum about refinishing the radio correctly as well, just do a little searching around and asking questions.
