Philco Phonographs.
#1

Now that I have one, I wonder what was the last year Philco quit making its own changers and switched over to vendors like V-M? Just curious as I also wonder how hard it would be to find a nice Philco Hi-Fi with one of these changers in it. (M24, M26, M28 ).

No matter where you go, there you are.

"D" Line (1956) was the last year Philco used its own changer across the entire line.

"E" Line (1957) was a cross over year. The Philco M-38 was used in low end portables and the M-39 WebCor Micro-Mix changer was introduced.

("F" line) 1958 introduced the VM in the low end and continued the Micro-Mix for the high end. Eventually the Glaser-Steers was phased in for the high end. The GS was clearly the best changer Philco ever used.

The original Philco changer was mono only and never available in stereo.

Thanks for information! I have a Philco hi-fi with the VM changer, but thought I might keep an eye out for one with the Philco changer as well. Nothing against the VM, I like that brand a lot.

For what it's worth, I believe the FIRST one they made themselves was the one in the '42 combo with the Beam-O-Light and the bakelite arm.
