Cleaning phono platters prior to reflocking
#1

In my previous post, I did not include how to properly clean a phono platter. Nothing can be easier to do, really.

Here's how I do it. Using a butter knife (or small paint scraper) under hot running water! Soak the platter well for 2 or 3 minutes under hot running water (in the kitchen sink, make sure you add a mesh filter to keep the flocking to clog the drain).

Then, keeping the platter under the running water, scrape the old flocking using the knife or scraper. Should take about 3 or 4 minutes. I've reflocked many platters, Philco, RCA, Kids phonos etc and this method worked well for everyone one of them.

The good point is not having to deal with chemicals.

Somewhat I suspect they used a water based glue. That hinted me in using Elmer's PVA glue.

See the results in the reflocking how-to.
