Don found a Philco 16B Tombstone
#1

My buddy Don found a 16B within a mile of his house and it is an amazing fine. This radio was owned by a friend and it is in great working condition with the shadow meter functioning and all bands loud and clear. He calls it his juke box since it is so powerful. Here are a few pictures to wet everyone's appetite. Oops photobucket is under maintenance so photos will come later. This thing is huge, I had never seen one before. Is the 116B cathedral the Same size or bigger? Photo's will follow as soon as I can upload them.

Did Philco use moulding on the top and sides of any other radios, I've never seen this design feature on a philco.[Image: http://i1281.photobucket.com/albums/a508...19da30.jpg]

Great find! Now that I've seen this 16B, along with a couple others with the early escutcheon, I now feel that the earliest production of 16B tombstones in this cabinet style must have used those escutcheons with rosette knobs; and they switched to the more familiar rectangular escutcheon and hex knobs soon after.

Ronin61, tell your friend Don to get some chevron cloth from Kenny Richmond, and that 16B will look nearly perfect. Icon_thumbup

Hey Ron we've got some old vintage cloth that we are going to put in very soon and it will look great. I'll take some pictures of the chassis Monday and post them.

Tom - yes, if it has that escutcheon, then it should have black rosettes. (I think.) Icon_crazy

Hey guys, thanks for the nice comments about my Philco 16B. I have the chevron grill cloth waiting just for this baby. Ronin61 and I are still discussing the type of knobs along with your comments.
Thanks
