Found a Beauty Today Philco 118B Tombstone??
#1

I was able to pick this up from the original owners grandson today, I believe it is a 118B, It is stamped 118 on the chassis. I overall good condition, I am not sure if the finish on the top and sides are original?
What do you guys think??

It looks to be a 118B shouldered tombstone. Very nice when restored.
Cant remember but I think it has a photo finish.

It does not look bad not refinished. And the chassis is clean, just lots of dust but no critters' crap and no rust I can see.
Chassis looks like that from 18 - did they use the same chassis?

VERY nice find, John!

I believe that after a good cleaning and grillecloth replacement it will not need a refinish.

Yes, the 18/118 are very similar chassis. In lieu of a tube-diagram inside the cabinet, the easiest way to tell if it is an 18 or a 118 is to look at the dial. The 18 will have either a very small (1.5-4.0 MHz) SW band or just the BC band and no SW.

The 118 has two bands, and the SW is a fat 4.2 t 12 MHz.

Philco had a great handle on making eight-tube sets!!

Oh yes.... NO photo-finish on these sets.

Not sure if the "118" on the tuning condenser is unique to the model 118. I THINK that I have seen this on the model 18s too, but I must advise you that I am old and my memory is not reliable.

I was looking at that radio also! If it had been listed for just one more day I would have grabbed it. That's a very sensitive and nice sounding radio; I've had one in the past.
