Philco 37-116 oscillator rewind
#1

The band #2 oscillator coil part #32-2194 on my 37-116 is open (no surprise on this model). I have never rewound a coil before and this one has 5 taps on it so I'm thinking this will be a tough project. I have melted the wax from it and the wire underneath is just crumbling. I doubt that I could get an accurate turns count in this condition. Soooooo, my question is has anyone here ever rewound this coil successfully? If so do you remember how many turns from tap to tap and what direction CW or CCW also from what measurement I got on the old wire using a micrometer it looks like it might be #38 or #40 gauge wire, not sure.
I have tried locating one with the help of people on here but so far no luck. Has anyone ever found a place that does rewinding? One place I contacted about a replacement coil said don't bother as there isn't much on this band. I hate to do all this restoration work on such a top notch radio as this and not get it working properly especially after going through the pain of getting the RF sub-chassis out!
Thanks for any and all help.

Ron

Do you have a photo of the coil?
#3

Is it both coils, or just the outside coil (wound over the bottom one near the lugs)?
#4

Morzh, I will try and get a photo of it soon but right now I'm away from home for a couple of days, also the last time I tried posting a pic the system said the file was too large and wouldn't allow it. I am not savvy when it comes to this computer stuff so not sure how to downsize the pic file.

Brenda, from what I see there should be continuity between all 5 terminals. I get continuity between 1&2, 2&3, 1&3 but nothing between any of these and 4 or 5, also nothing between 4&5.

If you can lower the resolution on your canera when you take the picture, it should make the pic smaller.

If you have a Google account, using picasaweb's embed feature works well. You can resize to 600 or 640 pixels, both of which are good sizes for the phorum.

OK let's see if this photo works. Band #2 part #32-2194 oscillator coil!

After some research today I believe the same band 2 oscillator coil is used also in a 37-675, 37-690 and a 38-116. Anyone one having success in rewinding this, if so I would appreciate hearing from you. Thanks

I would clean it and try to rewind it, if what I'm seeing is everything that was ever there.
#10

Morzh, looks like I will have to attempt a rewind as there doesn't appear to be much in the way of old parts available or info on doing a rewind on this model for that matter. Looks like maybe #38 or #40 guage wire so will give it a shot! Thanks
