1964 The Fisher Executive IX 960
#1

I was fortunate enough to stumble across this fantastic Fisher console right here in my home town. There is a younger fellow who is into antiques and came looking for a weight for a wall clock. In the course of the conversation he mentioned he had a Fisher console.

Since he is going to "Brimfield" a large outdoor flea market in Mass shortly he mentioned he could use some clocks. So I called him back and asked if was interested in a trade. he said sure and so today I traded some clocks for this console. This has the 800C 22 tube chassis and a Garrard type A record changerin the French Provincial cabinet. The speaker compliment is (2) 12" woofers (4) 5" mid range and (2) 3 1/2" tweeters. It also included some great literature as well as a six album boxed set of lp's from 1977.

I have started cleaning the set and have found the two brass caps for the knobs and the short spindle for the record changer.

Here are some pics.

Yeah, where did the pictures go, Gene?

I saw them briefly this morning and wanted to congratulate you on your great find. The 800-C receiver itself is a hot collectible that regularly brings big buck$$$ on the auction site.

OK, I think they are back. I originally hadn't reduced the size and did that earlier. It's been a while since I posted any pics so I forgot to resize them. I don't know what else I may have done???

Very nice find! I've always liked the sound of the 400 and 800 series receivers.
What did they use for speakers in the console? From the shadows on the grill they don't look to have horns. I do know the Fisher consoles were expensive in their day.

This unit has (2) 12" woofers, (4) 5" mids, and (2) 3 1/2" tweeters--they are not horns.

Somebody hold Ron back or he and the Expedition will be making a road trip on a dark night to NH when Gene isn't home to add to his MCM house.......

Great find!

It's an Excursion, not an Expedition...big difference...literally. Icon_eek An Excursion is basically an F-250 Super Duty with an enclosed bed.

No worries, Gene...I don't want your Fisher...besides, the gasoline from here to NH and back would break the bank...

Oh, I know...it's all in fun. Icon_smile

Now to be serious.

Gene, that is a really neat console! I like how it is designed so that you access the 800-C from the front while the changer and record storage are topside, and the whole thing closes up to look like furniture. Very nice indeed. Icon_thumbup Enjoy it!

(p.s. I can admire console stereos, but I don't want one. Several stereo receivers take up less room than one stereo console does.)

Well about all I have accomplished with this set is to respray the cabinet. I have removed all the components and need to get it into the house before it really gets cold.

Got sidetracked with two Simplicity Landlord  lawn tractors, and managed to injure my shoulder in the process. Getting better but have to watch how I use my left arm. Luckily it is not the rotator cuff.
