Speaker for a 38-62
#1

Anyone know where I can find or which model has an interchangeable speaker for a 38-62? Halfway through cap replacement but speaker is toast
#2

AJ, perhaps you can describe what part is "toast"? Field coil, voice coil, cone?

The 38-62 uses an S-7 speaker, which is also used in the following Philco models:

60
37-60
37-61
37-62
37-610B
37-610T
37-620B
37-2620B
38-9T
38-10T
38-60
38-620

Thanks Ron. Jerry, the cone is toast. Looks like it picked a fight with rocky balboa

AJ, if the cone is the only thing bad, no problem. Other parts are more problematic. I did a Philco 10" with a totally trashed cone for less than $3 for a cone and a little glue. Cone replacement is not rocket science, finding a proper cone, perhaps more so. There are people out there that do cone replacements.
Good luck, Jerry

PS: this is a speaker I reconed, trust me, underneath the duct tape was even worse!

This is the speaker after the $2 cone (shipping was more).

Looks great jerry, where did you get the cone from?
#7

AJ sorry but lost a lot of contacts after changing computers. Perhaps others here can give you some advise on vendors, all I remember is they had a name not really related to speakers but you can google speaker cones and see what they come up. If yours is a 10" I have a cone for shipping. Cheap as they are, on a chance, buy a bunch. Not certain what you need. Fix your speaker if the rest is good. Buying an orginal even if the cone is "good" they are all suffering from age like most of us.
Best, Jerry

A little edit: Went and did a search and this is where I went for a cone. Hope it helps:

Going to order a new cone in the next day or two. Just moved into my new place, first time out of the nest lol. As soon as I get everything settled I'm going to order one
#10

Hey Jerry, just for giggles did you try the speaker with the really sweet duct tape re-cone job?

Greg, it actually worked and didn't sound too bad.

That's funny, its amazing how such a crude repair worked and did the job.
