I picked this up today from the trash. It is a 37-? I was thinking 640 but it has a little different body. It needs a resto and has no tubes but is original.
I will probably not keep it since I have my 640 so I may part it out. Anyone interested in anything if I decide not to restore it?
I would keep checking that trash. It could be the guy selling radios on CL at Kings Park. Maybe he is getting rid of some stuff he cant sell? Who knows what will turn up!
That will be an intense resto if you choose to proceed.
The radio is probably a decent sounder, but myself, restoring a radio with low tube count that has an RF chassis...This kind of pain for me is worth it starting at at least 7-8 tubes.
It looks like a 37-620. No matter what model it is, the chassis was used in alot of the photo finish tombstones so maybe to save space you could find an empty cabinet to use it in.

That might be a 37-620, judging from the lack of the shadow meter. Definitely worth saving from the trash! I have a 37-610, 37-630, and a 37-640. Only one I am missing from that little collection is a 37-620! Yeah, that RF chassis is a headache, but if we all skip these radios because of that, who WILL save them?
Har Har Har Steve,
I am the guy in Kings Park and I don't throw nothing away
Someone actually just bought a few radios and cabinets from me to turn into computer radios. Glad to get rid of them. I didn't sell him anything that would be ruined or any Philcos, just empty cabinets and a battery set.
Thanks Ron, 620J it is. I was excited because when My brother brought it home I was hoping it was a 690 or something, lol NOT!
If you decide to part this thing out, I would be interested in the speaker. I just started rework on a 37-630X and that speaker looks to be in MUCH better shape than mine.
Does anyone see a problem w/ this substitution (assuming Kirk decides to sell)? The speakers are different.
620J - type HS, p/n 36-1220
630X - type H-24, p/n 36-1224
Neither schematic lists a value for the field coil, so I can't tell if they are close in value. Would this be a good substitution?
