An Idea Realized - The Philco Super 89
#16

Here is how the 32B cabinet looked once I completed repairs to the cabinet.

And now, after the Behlens Extra Dark Walnut toner had been applied to the top, sides and trim:

With any luck, this set should be finished tomorrow!

Tonight after work I finished spraying lacquer on my 32B cabinet; and then after letting it sit for awhile, I added grille cloth, reinstalled the escutcheon, and installed the Super 89 chassis and speaker.

By way of review, here is how the 32B cabinet looked before I finished gluing it together:

As you can see, the top is off. You can sort of see, if you look closely, that the left shoulder is also missing.

Imagine if you will:

* top broken off
* left shoulder broken off
* left front trim broken off
* two grillebars broken out
* upper quarter round trim above front panel missing
* wooden brackets inside cabinet that held the 32B power supply were separated from the left side of the cabinet

Now look at the completed set below.

As I said before...it is not perfect...but considering the condition both chassis and cabinet were in...it's a pretty nice transformation, I would say.

This is already my favorite radio...because I brought both cabinet and chassis back from pure junk...and with the modifications to the chassis, this set will outperform any stock 89. Icon_biggrin
