I think I would buy some cheap veneer and a piece 1/8 inch plywood and make a mock-up cabinet and do a couple of practice runs.

Kirk, no biscuits. I just joint the edges and glue the together. The banding gives the core its strength. Or were you refering to using biscuits to join the veneer?

Where do you get the orphan chassis and hardwear like escutcheons for the complete sets you are making? Have you thought of buying these up to use in your cabinets?

Todd, when I buy radios, I usually buy the worst of the worst! Also when I see escutcheons, knobs, speakers and such at a reasonable price, I buy them and put them in my "someday kit".

Being a hoarder, if i could do what you do i would probably buy any chassis i could and have an entire fleet of 70's. Not to downgrade Mr. Olivers cabinets but I think your cabinets look even better because it seems that you have payed more attention to grain detail on the veneers. You could sometimes tell that the Oliver cabinets were reproduction by the front arch veneer which didnt flow from one splice to the other or instead of strait grain it would be figgured.

I'm going to go ahead and add the dark accent to the flutes. It is much easier to do it now rather than wait until the cabinet is finished.

I masked off the edges, sprayed two coats of clear to seal the wood, then sprayed the dark toner.

Forming the wrap-around

I used 1/8 inch Luan to make the wrap-around. In order to bend the wrap, I first soak it for a full day.

After soaking, I bent the wrap and placed it between the legs of a small work table to hold it in a "U" shape.
