You are correct. I have 2 6a7's and 1 produces better reception and volume but still not up to par. So I think that's true but I bet it points to some other weakness and this tube "amplifies" (sorry the pun) the problem. I noticed that my radio is very sensitive to tuning. a little off and nothing.

I can't get an IF signal thru to speaker from the grid or from the plate of the 78 tube. So I suspect a bad IF transformer but yet I have continuity. Hmmmm...does the voltage perhaps disrupt the coil and block the signal and continuity when the radio is powered up?
