40-190 Antenna
#1

How can I best simulate the 40-190 antenna while I troubleshoot the radio?

Thank you,

I have an adjustable loop antenna that I use for things like that. Mine is a Terk, and there is alway the Select-A-Tenna. Both are available for sale online.

No other loop will substitute for the original, unless it is another loop from a 1940 Philco 40-180, 185 or 190. The loop is part of the set's front end and the radio will not function properly without it.

Wow Squire, it really works well. I just happen to have a Terk which usually sits behind my Pioneer receiver which has an AM rod antenna. It does not need to be connected to the Pioneer but I hooked it to terminals 1 and 4 on the Philco and I receive many loud stations now.
Great idea since I repair many Philcos from all over the country and do not want to have them ship the radio, speaker AND antenna.

Thank you,

You will never be able to obtain optimal results with anything other than an original 1940 loop. In addition, you will not be able to properly align the set with the Terk loop.

Have an extra loop from a 40-180 if your interested.
Let it go for $20 plus shipping.
Let me know if interested.
