Thanks guys! One last little task was to reproduce the missing chassis support board. This was made possible by another 38-7CS owner who kindly supplied a tracing and measurements.
I picked up a nice piece of 3/4" birch plywood and cut it out with a circular saw. [Image: https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3917/1450...1dc2_c.jpg] [Image: https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5570/1468...94ba_c.jpg] Now the tricky bit - I need to drill holes for the rubber chassis mounts at just the right location. I put a drop of red paint on the chassis rods and carefully set the board in place. Now I know exactly where to drill [Image: https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3894/1451...4ea6_c.jpg] I used 1" and 1/2" forstner bits to create a stepped hole. It's a perfect fit. [Image: https://farm3.staticflickr.com/2899/1450...d984_c.jpg] It fits and the controls line up [Image: https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3926/1470...0851_c.jpg] [Image: https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3848/1451...8daf_c.jpg] Finally I give it a few coats of Rustoluem camouflage brown paint. I've been following your videos on YouTube for this (and the electrical restoration). Excellent work Bob!! I was never a fan of chairsides but after seeing yours I want to go out and get one!

I finally finished rubbing out the finish and assembled the radio
I used Behlen Deluxing compound for the final step. [Image: https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5576/1519...2e6f_c.jpg] [Image: https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3860/1521...9114_c.jpg] The speaker mounted screws were painted with Rustoleum Dark Walnut gloss enamel. It's the closest I've found the the original color. [Image: https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3930/1523...cf66_c.jpg] Someday I'll get around to replacing the grille cloth. [Image: https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3928/1539...0562_c.jpg] Soaked the knobs in diluted, warm dishwashing liquid to remove years of crud. [Image: https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3936/1542...acdc_c.jpg] After a little tinkering, everything lines up well [Image: https://farm3.staticflickr.com/2950/1541...3dd8_c.jpg]

Here it is all back together next to my new sofa. I discovered the shelf is a nice spot to store a laptop.

I like 38-7's dial. It looks especially good on a chairside.
