Any 37-690 cabinets out there??
#1

Well I think I can answer that Icon_lol   If I'm wrong and someone has an empty cabinet please let me know.

I recently bought a few Philco items and ended up with the complete innards to a 37-690. Both chassis, woofer, tweeters, all clarifiers, tubes, bezel, knobs...everything but the wood! It was priced right and they are in exceptionally good condition so I brought them home.

Well..... I don't think I'll find a cabinet but it's always nice to have spare parts.

You should put an ad in the wanted section of the phorum.

Good idea Warren. There may be one out there with missing parts or badly rusted chassis. Wonder if the parts would look good in any other Philco cabinet until the right one is found?

What a great find! Agree with Warren, please do post a "Wanted" ad. (Edit: I see you did already, thanks.)

Some years ago I had a 38-690 cabinet which also had the upper chassis...but nothing else. No amp/power supply, no woofer, no tweeters. I got rid of that a long time ago. Too bad...it would have made a nice home for your components.

And before that, I once found an empty 37-690 cabinet in an antique shop. The owner was using it just for display, and kept talking about wanting to make a doll chest out of it. After repeated visits by me, she finally sold the cabinet to me. I later drove to Florida to buy a second 37-690 which had no legs but was otherwise complete, in order to get the innards for my complete cabinet. All of that is long gone, also...sorry. This was back in the early 1990s, I think.

Great to hear Ron!  The fact that you have found several empty cabinets gives me hope!

I'll keep everything together as I never know what could be missing. It would be great to find one like you did in the antique shop Icon_biggrin

There was a 38 cabinet at the recent Kingston auction.  I think the flipper may have bought it. He had an ad on CL a little while ago.

I guess there still are cabinets out there Icon_biggrin  I'll keep looking.

Looks like the dial bezel is different if I find a 1938 set. May be able to find one though as it looks like there were at least a couple other 1938 sets made with automatic tuning, if they are the same.

I know a guy in the same boat as you, who's installing his chassis in a 38-116X cabinet while he searches for the real deal.

A 37-690 in a 38-116 cabinet? Now there's an interesting concept...and it would fit, too...

Will take some rearranging, speakers in particular...but out of allc abinets 3x-116 are probably the closest. Oh, and 680.

I had thought about using a cabinet from a 37-116. I really like that cabinet but wasn't sure it would work.

I had originally bought this for spare parts but it is so complete, and in such nice condition that I'm keeping it together until I find a cabinet. Putting it in a 37-116 cabinet until a correct one is found would be so much better than putting it all on a shelf. I would keep the 116 parts and it could always be put back if/when a cabinet is found. The 3x-116's are such a nice set as well.

Maybe I could mount the 2 tweeters were the 2 outside clarifiers go ??? Icon_confused
