66B original toner colors
#1

I'm getting ready to apply toner on my 66B. I've seen 4 or 5 different color schemes in different photos. I've seen the front and sides a lighter color and the top a darker brown. I've also seen the front light and sides and top a darker brown.
Any ideas? Here's the before toner photo:

I would say a perfect brown on the front with extra dark walnut on the trim and sides. I have seen a few "original" but that was the most popular.

Someone may know exact though.

The very similar 60MB is definitely black on the trim and a light dusting of brown on the veneer. There's an original ad on this page stating the colors as black and "natural mahogany": http://www.tuberadioland.com/philco60MB_main.html

According to the gallery, the 66B uses the same cabinet as the 60MB. http://www.philcoradio.com/gallery/1935a.htm#ae

The original finish on my 60MB had the same shade on top, sides and front. Thanks to UPS it arrived splattered so you can see the front and sides next to each other.

Thanks Bob. I can see the colors clearly in your photo. That's a shame that you received it in that condition. Between your photo and that original ad, I should have no problem.

Luckily, it was fairly to glue back together and refinish. Here's the result. Good luck with yours.

That looks great. It looks the sides are a different shade than the front. Is that the way it is or just the photo? Also what did you use?

It's just the lighting. Here's another photo. I used Medium Brown Walnut and Studio One Black. I first tried Brown Mahogany, but it looked too red and removed it.

Hi Eric,
Here is a quick snapshot of my 66B in origional finish. I've got the dark on the sides and top type with the black "spine" and trim. Hopefully someday I'll get around to doing some touch up work on the trim and other various bits that might need it like that weird tiny little stain on the grille cloth. Hey guys,
Sorry, I forgot about this thread. Since I wrote this I've done 2 66Bs. I had to replace the side and top veneer on both of them. I used Mohawk Medium Brown Walnut for all surfaces and Vandyke Brown for the trim:

Looks real purdy Eric!  Icon_smile
What dd you use for the repaint on the escutcheon?

Thanks. For the metal part I used gloss black enamel and Van dyke Brown for the wood that surrounds it.
