Knobs for 46-1226
#1

Hi,

A friend has asked me to locate a set of knobs for a 1946 Model 46-1226 (console radio with phonograph). Can anyone direct me to a seller or source? Also, is this 1946 radio likely to need to be recapped? I'm a newbie without much electronics background, but he knows even less than I do. I'm restoring my third 1930's era radio, and I know those all need restoration. However, I don't know about the 1940's radios. I'd like to be able to advise him, because he loves the radio. Thanks for any info you can give!

I wouldn't even plug it in without atleast replacing the filter caps, although all the caps should be replaced before prolonged operation.

You should also check/replace resistors as needed and check voltages against the schematic.

repro knobs are available there http://www.radiodaze.com/reproduction-parts/
for original knobs, maybe ebay?

There is also a list of knob suppliers here.   I've bought from all of them except Kelton.  Dave, Julie and Mike have original knobs.  Email them and they'll let you know if they have what you need.

Thanks!

He's been playing it for a long time.  I don't know how long he's had it.  I tried to explain it may need re-capping.

Thank you!

I didn't see any for this model on the other sites. Of course, I don't even know what they look like.

I don't have this model, this is just an image off the internet, so I can't be certain whether they would be the 1941 or the 1942 knobs (they have a different size shaft slot).  If I had to guess I'd guess 1942 since they ceased production for the war until they restarted in '46 and would have had those knobs available.
