Whatzit on 42-1010
#1

On my 42-1010 console, there is a small black cast metal box mounted to the cabinet next the the chassis. The harness to the beam of light pickup connects to this box with a 4-pin plug, and there is an RCA jack on the box as well. What purpose does this box serve and what's inside?

Phono Input Transformer, Part No. 89 on the schematic.

Which would explain why I had no audio from the phono until I reconnected it. Audio levels came up a bit with the contacks cleaned, but I'm betting that the cell is pretty much shot as I just can't get much volume without turning the volume knob up at least 3/4 of the way. Not a big thing until I forget and switch to radio and blast the furniture across the room!

Once I get the dial restrung and get the chassis back in the cabinet, I'll tackle replacing the cell.

The link to Don Cochrane on my BOL page. Don rebuilds these BOL cells.
