Firestone 4-A-115
#1

Picked this up at a local flea market just for something to keep busy with.  Thought it was kind of ugly at first but it grew on me.  The grill cloth is actually a plastic woven mesh that I had no hope of finding anything even close to so cleaned it up as much as possible and used it again.  The recap etc. was pretty straight forward.  The only pictures of this model I could locate were on airchiefradios.com and on a PhotoFact page.  The catalog picture doesn't look like the one I have, I believe its the blond model rather than the mahogany that I have.  The PhotoFact pic is exactly the same.

Wow bob
Very nice. How did you get dial
So shinie and new looking

Some day, and that day may never come, I will call upon you to do a service for me. But until that day, accept this justice as a gift

Lookin nice, the dial is that thick clear plastic over gold leaf paint?
#4

Thanks Fred and Sam, the dial is the thick clear plastic and under it is a paper backed gold foil that just lays under the plastic.  I put a new foil over the old one to brighten it up a little.  The dial pointer also needed a gold paint spray as much of the original gold color had been worn off.

The cabinet looks very beefy and the dial is neat. Zeniths in the 50's used metal with screened numerals and the metal frequently is corroded.

Sometimes a simple set given attention can look very sharp. I like that antenna inside. Is it an early ferrite of some type?

Nice job. How does it sound?

Thanks Paul, yes a ferrite rod antenna. It sounds Ok, not great. Has decent reception though, pulls in more stations than I expected.

Really nice work on yours..looks great. Really interesting "brand" when we trace models thru the years and they will always be a good example of a certain type of "Americana" that appeals to a lot of collectors. Something for everyone really..from Stewart Warner built..to Plant A built..even Detrola built and some with Ingraham cabinets.
Nice save on yours!

It is interesting. I have a 1964 Zenith and the sound is good but the sensitivity quite high on AMand FM. Pus it is a good size, not too big. Easy to keep. Find a place for this one in your collection!
