As we discussed on another thread, I just picked up a 40-170 Chairside. I've checked all my resources, but can't seem to find any information on it, other than the one sold in 2011 on Radio Attic, and an approx. value in the Collector's Guide, and, of course, schematics on Nostalgia Air. Does anyone know how many of these were made? Or their popularity?
This also has castors instead of metal feet. It looks like they are original. Anyone know anything about these?

I'll take a post some pics today as I start disassembly. You will notice that the top 2 inlays are bird's eye maple, which was installed by the OP. I'll be replacing these with book match burl, either mahogany or walnut.

*Important Reminder: remember, this site is the place for all things Philco. MANY questions about anything Philco are answered simply by looking here.
That is a sharp looking set! I have never seen one other than photos.

I know that I'm just getting started here, but that the exact model I hope to find.
I remember sitting in Grandpas lap as he tuned a radio back in the early 50's ...never knew the radio but remember the experience.

I would leave the birdseye in there, believe it or not Philco did make some cabinets using figured maple. I can't say that this was factory built but if it was not it was very professionally done if it wasn't.

Arran I've already removed the bird's eye. The PO said he installed it, and upon closer observation, you could see where he had to fill in the edges with putty. I'm not a purist, but I am somewhat of a perfectionist, and his imperfections were quite obvious.
