A little info 16B Cathedral,Please
#1

Hi all, Icon_wave
Could you all give me a little insight on this huge monster. A friend picked this set up at a estate sale
for 35.00. Pulled the chassis out looks like no one has been under the hood, but will need a complete
recap and resistor check. Didn't know about the push/pull tuning  all the rubber O rings are shot including
the one behind the dial .What can I expect in performance out of this Beast after the complete redo.
Thanks in advance for your thoughts on this.

All the Model 16 variants are great players. It is worth the work it takes to get them going.

Some consider it arguably the best tabletop by Philco. I got one from Ron

I have a 16B. I found it in the damp basement at my radio club. It sounds great for only replacing the electrolytics.

The various incarnations of the 16B are great radios. I have both the cathedral and a 'shouldered' tombstone versions. Now I just need the two 'peaked-top' variants and I'll be all set. Icon_smile

Use a small oil filter gasket. Get an equivalent to a Fram 3387A filter and remove the thick rubber gasket.
It is almost an exact match.

You may need to use glue or epoxy to get the gasket to stay in place.

I have shouldered tombstone (the one from the site's banner), a cathedral (the cabinet is in works at Kirk's), and a console (a gift).

The cross section of the Fram 3387A oil filter gasket is a little small and will require a shim to keep the drive from slipping. Check this thread, scroll to the bottom, I have listed filters that are a better option and will not require shimming.    http://philcoradio.com/phorum/showthread...ter+gasket
