Have a Philco 49-505 just got it. In my office, located in an office building I get top end of the dial well but at lower end a lot of static and loud pops. Again notat the top end but at the bottom. I sont see a place for an external anttena if anyone thionks that moght help. Any thoughts about a AC line filter

You can try blowing all the old dust & debris out of the tuning condenser on the chassis. Sometimes, a dirty tuning-condenser causes the reception probs you described. Try a spray-can of air cleaner used for computers,etc. avail at walmart,etc. If the set hasnt been recapped & properly serviced & aligned, its time for your radio to get a full electronic overhaul by a qualified tech, or by help reading these forums pages to help you do it yourself. or it could be the fact that you are inside of an ' office building' full of interference.

Take the radio home and see how it works.
