Hi all,
I am lon a new collector of Philco, I have a question about Philco model 41-81, First does anyone know how many of these where made, Second does anyone know what year this model was made, I just percussed this radio I paid 15 Dollers for it, and lastly where can i find the battery that is needed to make it work.

Thanks in advance lon.

Never built one before, but I can give it a shot. I'll need a little help from you to get the right measurements, though.

PM me if you're interested.

Tube,

Your set is a 1941 model year set, hence the 41- prefix in the model number.
Philco started doing this in the 1937 model year and continued this practise until the end.

Your set takes a single A-B type battery with the stanard offset 4-pin socket familiar to Bill BatteryMaker.
Don't have the Philco battery number here at work, but have the info at home.
Maybe Bill has the info too?

I've got the info and the measurements, but I've found sometimes a gulf between what an original battery measured compared to what the manufactured said it measured...off by a half inch in some cases. Icon_eek

I think it's feasible, but I'd want to do some test fits before I dress it up in Philco regalia.

Hi bill,
I do not know if the pm worked but the slot the the battery fits in is, 4 inches deep 3 inches high and 10.3/4 long, i do not know how to put it in mms. Thanks Again.

P.S. What do you guys think the Radio is worth? There is one certainly being sold on ebay, mine is in better shape I think.

Looks like what I've dummied together will fit within the measurements you've sent.

If you can contact me at batterymaker at gmail dot com, I'll give you pricing and more details.

Slowly making progress on the battery. Will have pix in a few days.

Okay, just about finished.

Cradle just needs a couple of partitions to hold the B section in place. That piece of wood next to the batteries is keeping the cardboard cover glued to the B board together--it's drying... Icon_wink

Finished battery uses two C cells for the A, seven 9-volt batteries for the B.
