Happy New Year all.
I wish I was coming here with better news but I've had some problems with my 41-608 and I'm at a loss.
Here's one of the original threads on it if you have time to kill and what to do some light reading:
http://philcoradio.com/phorum/showthread.php?tid=5971
I won't go into all the horrible details, but a month or so ago the set started smelling horrible and my BOL light bulb started getting dimmer and dimmer.
I brought the chassis to a friend who replaced the transformer, a few tubes, and aligned it for me.
The radio sounds incredible now and picks up stations it never did before.
Now the problem...
The Phono is horribly distorted and has a horrendous hum.
The BOL light bulb still seems a bit dim and seems to pulse to the beat of the music (not sue if it did that before though)
I used to occasionally bypass the phonograph sometimes and plug in my MP3 player in it's place and even that is distorted now.
In fact, I've tried disconnecting everything phono related at the back of the set (the input coming from the BOL is disconnected and the two wires that power the light bulb have been disconnected at the phono) but there is still a very loud hum.
I know that the turntable, motor and arm need to be properly isolated or you get feedback and hum, but I disconnected everything!?!
Is there something or somewhere you all could direct me to that might get me started in the right direction?
Thanks,
I missed you guys....
